As one half of Savage Garden, Darren Hayes sold millions of records around the world. Last year, after splitting from the band in 2001, he went on to prove he could do the same on his own. His debut solo album Spin has been a huge success, producing hit singles such as Insatiable and Crush (1980 Me). The latter was his ode to the 80s - he was a teenager during the dacade that taste forgot. "It's just the good stuff from the 80s that I listen to really," he says. "If I'm listening to records of today I'll think about what it is I love about the record and go back and find the influences. "But there are two people from that era I never stop listening to and they are Prince and U2. They're two artists that have always evolved." Hayes is currently on a six-month sabbatical from his career, taking the time to do some studying and try out new things. But no doubt he'll be listening to lots of new music aswell. "The last record I bought was the Fischerspooner record," he says. "But then I'm into the top 40. I like Pink and I think Avril Lavigne is fun." |
